E is for Enshittification
An illustrated children's book for technology professionals, savvy toddlers, and tired adults alike.
A is for Algorithm.
B is for Billionaire.
C/D is for Cory Doctorow.
These are the opening lines in our new alphabet of despair.
If it feels like the online world just keeps getting worse, E is for Enshittification helps explain why — or at least offer a brief reprieve before your next doomscrolling session.
After a series of talks on enshittification last year, a few of my team members at Evans Hunt started talking about how to build on its success. And after over six months of talking about it, we finally found a pocket of availability at the start of the year to make it happen.
A book? Too serious. Somebody else's topic.
A children's book? Now you're talking.
We launched the book at UX Camp last weekend (Feb 28), returning to the scene of the crime to share a copy with 300 or so friends in the Calgary UX community. There's even an emoji pack you can use to add to the book's characters to your team's Slack instance.
It's been a lot of fun to create, and the feedback so far has been tremendous.
PS. If sharing with children, I recommend "enpoopification"... they pick up words so quick. 😇
